The cartographic sound of the city

Exploring the cartographic sound of Amsterdam by using its street plan as a map (June 2003)

I made the instrument myself. The metal combs come from the music instrument repairer of museum ‘van speelklok tot pierement’ (Utrecht). As for music role, I placed a sticker sheet (printed in negative) of the street plan on the copper cone so that only the buildings were pasted on the cone, after which I placed it in an acid bath for several days so that the copper could corrode there where no building are present. After this, I coated the copper cone.

Amsterdam sounds like a Chinese riddle with a Vondelpark rhythm.
