The professorship Design & Social Innovation focuses on transition challenges with a strong emphasis on social innovation. In collaboration with institutional partners such as municipalities, provinces, and governmental bodies, including Rijkswaterstaat, the professorship provides expert knowledge on participatory design strategies. In this context, social innovation is integrated with organizational and technological innovation.
The researchers within the lab possess expertise in various disciplines, including cartographic methods, participatory design, social sciences, GIS, and geotechnology. This enables them to combine qualitative research with a quantitative, data-driven approach, leading to innovative approaches to engage with complex social issues. The lab is involved in projects that lie at the intersection of research-education, education-society, and society-research.

This report outlines the research conducted at the lab from September 2023 to January 2025 for the GO-CAWH project, which was comissioned by Rijkswaterstaat. In this project, Design Academy Eindhoven collaborated with the University of Groningen and Coöperatie Kloostersland.
