Civic City

October 2009

Civic City is a group exhibition that took place in Barcelona at Elisava (Pompeu Fabra University). Under the direction of Ruedi Baur different Master students collaborated in this exhibition which aimed to explore the different neighbourhoods in Barcelona and enhance neighbourhood identity.

The exhibition explored nine districts of Barcelona and made a representation of each neighbourhood, with the idea to enhance the identity and strength of each neighbourhood. My contribution was an animation about the district San Antoni. Historically known for it’s Sunday’s book market (which are still held every Sunday) and the only district that no metro line crosses beneath ground I came up with the idea of text presenting itself in the metro, only visible when being in the metro and passing the borders of the district, this way linking the furthermore disconnected vertical layers of the city; the underground with its city.
